BREATHWORK

Guided breathwork is a powerful tool in achieving overall health and wellness. Movement starts in the lungs, and through these sessions people will learn how to optimize their breath from the inside out, increasing oxygen absorption and promoting natural healing and recovery. Breathwork has been scientifically proven to be extremely beneficial in the healing of injuries, chronic pain, inflammation, stress and anxiety, among many other benefits. Our breathwork sessions are based on a variety of breathing modalities including extensive training with the Wim Hof Method®. Breathwork sessions and classes also typically include some gentle movement and mobility work to further optimize the breath.

The breath is something that happens automatically (thankfully) but the automatic breath is not necessarily our natural most effective breath. Breathing to survive is easy but breathing to thrive takes work! As a baby we breathe naturally expanding with our entire body as we fully receive each inhale. Over time we lose this and learn dysfunctional patterns of breath. How?

There is little emphasis on effective breathing in schools or in society in general. It’s easy to think that it just isn’t that important. We accumulate experiences in our life that alter our breath patterns. Breathing can become laboured, quick and shallow not reaching deep into our tissues and joints. Breathing in this manner regularly can activate a fight or flight response and increase stress. Thankfully the breath is also one of the bodily activities that can easily be altered to put is in a more restful state to promote deeper healing. By taking back control of our breathing we can create a ripple effect throughout our body influencing each human system while promoting accelerated rest and healing, strengthening our core breathing muscles and we can even improve mobility in the upper back, shoulders and neck.
